Short Videos: Political and Societal Commentary in Entertainment

Postby Feydakin » Sun Jul 03, 2016 5:00 pm

So, I often see great little snippets of video of things that are very impactfully (it's a word, I just made it up) making points about various issues. I thought it'd be a cool thread for people to add to. Now bearing in mind that none of us necessarily need to agree with what's being said in the videos. Some of these might be TV or movie spoilers, so enter at your own risk! I'll start. ;)

George Carlin on the American Dream:

Mr. Robot: What is it about society that disappoints you so much?
Spoiler: show

The Newsroom: Why America is the greatest country in the world?
Spoiler: show

Homeland (Rupert Friend as Peter fucking Quinn, aka the best thing about Homeland): What's your strategy?
Spoiler: show

I LOVE this:

And yes, I guess the SENTIMENT behind a lot of the support for the misguided and amateurish tactics of the Tea Party Caucus was orientated around disrupting a corrupt and violent system, but it's turned into little more than an authoritarian populist pile of shit.

Wish I would have seen that during the Election, I would have posted that all up on the Facebook.

Hay, NC gets another go at our State House and Senate elections so I just may get a chance to post it :)

man, THIS is when The Newsroom should have been on. shit, i hope Sorkin is penning something as we speak.
i really enjoyed the portrayal of Republican beliefs in that show. the kind of folk the party is now sorely missing in its leadership, and the ones who are there don't seem to be standing up as of yet...
