If I can swing it, I will see this when it opens.

Sure this is not the Trek that most of us grew up with, but those who they have chosen to play the iconic characters are doing a damn good job at it. They are working with what they are given. Hopefully, this one is good because Pegg helped write it.

Now the new Stargate movie that is in the pipeline. I can not support that; they have crapped on 10 years of SG1 and 5 years of SGA. You can't fix that. Unlike this, at least they attempted to blend the two, and they at least knew that old fans would be watching, they did not totally get rid of all of the history of Trek, in the first one, they speak of Archers dog. There is that and it looks like in the new trailer there is a ship that looks like it could be an NX-01, or at least a successor to the NX-01.

I feel that the Star Trek television shows were amazing, wonderful pieces of philosophy and art. The movies each did their own thing. That's fine too. The new reboot is great because at least they did something. And now we get a new television series, finally. I like this piece of writing from SImon Pegg about the Kelvin timeline:
http://simonpegg.net/2016/07/11/a-word-about-canon/

At least its an explanation. And I agree that it's really good visibility for same sex families. I do wish there was more representation in well-established canon. I love how Doctor Who and Torchwood never even made it a big deal. It was evolution. Science fiction in general can be a good vehicle for representation of all kinds. Star Trek can be beautiful that way too. Well, mostly.

Beyond was way better than I expected it to be. It's like a long away mission. Awesome. I would love to see how this parallel universe unfolds. I hope it breeds ground for the Titan and that cool indie/canon stuff like Star Trek Axanar get a fair shake.

Beautiful. Incredible. Another beautiful story that could be integrated. But fan films are fighting uphill.

If you want to know every little detail as of Dec 2015, this guy will detail it. I have no opinion on his speculation about Beyond and Pegg or the inner workings of the creation of the new movies.

This came out in June 2016 from CBS to dissuade fan films.

And here is a cool podcast from the Axanar website (Sept 2016).

And now.

I'm still re-reading your original post.
There is alot to unpack. I think that the love of Star Trek, the enthusiasm/passion for it, should be protected.
And its also a short window of time that the people of todays Star Trek can have actors from the established series
be involved in unbelievably awesome versions. I don't want to think about how sad we will all be the next time a beloved Star Trek actor is taken from us.

I liked this one way better than the second one. The first one and "Beyond" were very entertaining in my opinion.

I thought it was fine but I'd forgotten most of it by the time I left the cinema. A solid C for me.

that was exactly my take as well. it was fun, but it didn't stay with me at all. felt more like a big budget episode than anything else, and not one of those *Great* episodes, either. yeah...as much as i love Simon Pegg, it was a C in my book as well.
