Your Top 5 Favorite Sci-Fi Movies of All Time & Sci-Fi Movie

Postby Feydakin » Mon Apr 25, 2016 9:34 pm

Feydakin's Top 5 Favorite Sci-Fi Movies! (in no particular order)
-----------------------------------------------
Image
1. Star Wars Original Trilogy - It's basically one movie... ;)
Spoiler: show

2. 2001 A Space Odyssey - Masterpiece. Nothing more needs to be said...
Spoiler: show

3. Blade Runner - "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die." I mean come on.
Spoiler: show

4. Aliens - I know, Aliens but not Alien?! Here's the thing though, I consider Alien more of a horror movie than science fiction, and Aliens more of a sci-fi action movie. Alien is like number 6 on my top horror movies though! They are both amazing!
Spoiler: show

5. David Lynch's Dune - I cannot leave this out of my top 5. Dune is my favorite science fiction story of all time. Yes, the movie was a flop, but I loved every blessed minute of it. Being a David Lynch fan helps a lot.
Spoiler: show

-----------------------------------------------

Honorable Mentions:

The Matrix - I didn't hate the sequels, but this movie redefined cyberpunk for this generation. It really is a masterpiece. It's just a shame that the sequels were such a mess.
Spoiler: show

This is honestly an impossible task, choosing. ;)

I'll be doing a few of these threads for genres that I care about. Please if you post a video embed I would request that you place it in spoiler tags so the thread doesn't get too unwieldy to load! Thanks!

Please remember, this isn't "The Best XY Movies..." it's your favorite movies in the genre. These are personal choices, the ones that mean the most to you. There are no right or wrong answers here.

The lines are so blurred when you can put so many movies in multiple categories... which makes it that much harder to come up with these lists! For example Star Wars, you can make a case for it being fantasy, even though it classically would be considered sci-fi by many. :D

i think the way i'm going to be able to narrow this down is to consider which of these amazing films truly did what the best TRUE science-fiction does, and that's make you think about what it means to be human/be conscious, and what it means to be a part of the universe/this dimension. therefore, i can pick

1. Blade Runner
2. The Matrix
3. eXistenz
4. Close Encounters of the Third Kind

i am still hovering for the 5th with
Starman
Moon
Ghost in the Shell
Ex Machina
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Another Earth

also, i dearly love all of the Mad Max films, but i'm going towards the cerebral end of the genre with my picks ;)

That is a great list of underrated sci-fi movies! I'd probably have most if not all of those in my top twenty favorites... ;)
