I'm listening to a lot of things I've never heard before and right now it's the album 'Figure 8' by Elliott Smith. Good so far but nothing which has me going 'OMFG I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE'.

that's funny that's exactly what i was about to post...Elliott Smith. i've been a fan of his for a lonnnnnnnng time though. his music really grew on me and i listened a lot while wearing headphones at work so that might have a lot to do with how it crept up on me. his lyrics just shake me up, his voice seeps into my bones...i dunno...might just be an acquired taste...but also might be one of those artists that you have to spend some time with as well.

XO was always my favorite album of his.

He's good. I enjoyed listening to his and listened to the album the whole way though :) His style reminds me of a lot of Beatles stuff and I really like his voice. I'll definitely be exploring some ore of his music as I've got hold of quite a lot of it!

Glad you're a fan :)

oh sweet also glad you're enjoying! yeah man he kept me going through some rough times at my old job. i identified with his angst :-D

have you seen a photo of him? he always tripped me out...one of those fellas who's voice really didn't match their appearance.
when he died, it made me so, so sad, and i am not one to get melancholy over the death of a famous person i'd never personally known. his might have been the first ever, actually. still does to this day apparently, since as i just typed that i could feel my throat crawling up inside myself. he left way, way too soon. he was almost prolific in his song-writing and there are still recordings i think his family has (?) that might not ever be released. i'm glad they did release the final album he was working on before he died even if it wasn't entirely finished. i just get so bummed out the world will never hear any new Elliott Smith songs again. he had a lot to say and share and *poof* he was gone.

to this day, even though his songs dealt with the subject matter often, i do not believe his death was a suicide. there's just something not right about the account put forth from his girlfriend at the time... //smh

I have no idea what he looks like and I had no idea he was dead. I just stumbled upon a recommendation somewhere and decided to give him a listen. It'll be difficult now but I'll try not to think of him killing himself when I'm listening to his tunes now. He is prolific though. As I said, I'm looking forward to listening to some of his other stuff because I've I've heard so far is the album 'Figure 8'.

A song which always gets to me. Such a beautiful performance. Always reminds me of The Wonder Years, and for some reason, I've always related a lot to that show. The ending broke my heart in a way that I had never experienced from a TV show before.

"Jared Dines from YouTube and his buddy Vince - also known as the former singer of Rest, Repose - recently invested 24 hours of their time to write and record a pop tune."

I wouldn't exactly call it "pop" per se, more-so a pop-punk or alt-pop-punk, but that's totally fine by me because 90's/00's pop-punk has always been my favorite genre. I've always associated most heavily with the feeling that pop-punk tends to convey, and I'm not sure if growing up with it influenced me to think that way, or if these are just my people. I like to think it's a bit of both. Either way, for a couple of metal-heads I think they completely nailed this song.

LYRICS:
Spoiler: show
Remember the day I brought you flowers
Took you to the beach
and we talked for hours
You were lookin' so fine
you made me unwind
I could hardly breathe
With you sittin' next to me
In this beautiful scenery
Everything we had was so surreal

It felt unreal

I'd like to read some letters I wrote for you
Didn't have the courage to send them on the Internet
If I had it my way, you'd be here
But you're not, and I swear its ok

I'll wait for you
Because true love doesn't just come over night
And I'm lost without you
I'm trying not to fight
This feeling inside me
And I know that if you had one wish you'd make it right
If I had it my way you'd be coming over every night

I'd like to read some letters I wrote for you
Didn't have the courage to send them on the Internet
If I had it my way, you'd be here
But you're not, and I swear its ok

I swear its ok
I swear its ok
I swear its ok
I swear its ok

Taking my myself back on all the moments we had
I just can't help but to wonder if you're thinking of me when I'm thinking of you
But now I'm right here right now finding myself alone and lost without you.
I love the way you look at me
You make me feel free

I'd like to read some letters I wrote for you
Didn't have the courage to send them on the Internet
If I had it my way, you'd be here
But you're not, and I swear its ok

I'd like to read some letters I wrote for you (I swear it's ok)
Didn't have the courage to send them on the Internet (I swear it's ok)
If I had it my way you'd be here (I swear it's ok)
But you're not and I swear its ok
